Situated in a Southeast Asian country called Cambodia, Angkor Wat is one of the many temples situated in the entire Angkor Wat complex which make up one of the world heritage sites by UNESCO. As history goes, Ankur Wat was the capital of the Khmer Empire in the twelve century, and its best place for family tours and holiday tours. It is undoubtedly the largest Hindu temple on the planet Earth. It is believed that Angkor Wat was a huge city with canals and other structures, some residential while some official. But the entire city vanished and what remained was the complex of Angkor Wat which was built for the gods, chiefly Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. In spite of Cambodia brimming with Buddhism, Hinduism existed for a reason in Cambodia. Trade between India and Cambodia has been very strong since the second century BC. A handful of traders used to come to Cambodia and live and they became the reason for the spread of Hinduism.

The entire structure consists of 5 entrances for animals, the royal family, the king, and slaves respectively. The inside of the main city of the complex was earlier inherited by people living inside bamboo and straw houses. There is also a library, from which artifacts have been taken out. The walls of Angkor Wat speak tremendously about its history and its identity. While some frescoes are about the royal durbar, others are images taken from the Ramayana that depict Hindu history. As we go inside we also find four pools dedicated to the four elements of nature. The entire temple area has small chambers of stone each dedicated to a god or a deity. There are a few steps of elevation to a Garbh Grah and then Shikhar.

At first, Angkor Wat may seem like a Hindu temple in the Deccan but a closer look would make visitors understand that it is an amalgamation of Buddhist as well as Deccan architecture. The entire area is filled with green forest and roots emerge out of anywhere and everywhere across the structures. Some tree branches are as old as 200 to 250 hundred years ago. There are two more temples around the same heritage site which are being renovated by the combined efforts of the Cambodian Government and UNESCO. These places were where Buddhist monks and Apsaras (or dancers) used to live. Visiting Cambodia is usually synonymous with visiting temples and especially Angkor Wat.
